Sir, - You had a letter last week stating how driving in Dublin should be regarded as antisocial. I would suggest that I have encountered the most anti-social barman in Dublin. Last Thursday evening I ordered a drink (a coke!) in a pub on Dame Street and the reply from the barman was: "Are you sure you can afford that?"
Is this what Dublin has come to? Has economic boom led us to a situation where we are so confident that there will always be customers to serve, that we can now insult them at our will? I shudder to think of the impression such a barman could make on a tourist, especially one expecting a friendly and supposedly typical Irish response. - Yours, etc.,
Suzanne Dunne, Parkvale, Dundrum, Dublin 16.
