Sir, - We congratulate your science editor, Dick Ahlstrom, on his excellent article about Ireland's involvement in space technology and science (The Irish Times, January 30th). There has been a noticable improvement in awareness of science and technology in Ireland during the past few years and much of the credit for this can be attributed to the regular coverage in The Irish Times.
The article accurately outlined the remarkable progress made recently in Ireland's space industry. As scientific participants in nine major space experiments since the Apollo 16 lunar mission in 1972, we at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies are delighted to observe this expansion in space technology and would like to wish all those involved a prosperous future, both intellectually and financially. - Yours, etc.,
School of Cosmic Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Dublin 2.
