Sir, - It was George Bernard Shaw who said: "If you put an Irishman on a spit, you will always get another one to turn him." This remark came immediately to mind upon being shown an advert in the London Evening Standard from a "Dublin building Company" looking for workers in both London and Dublin, giving two London telephone numbers and ending with the words "No Bog Persons."
This staggering piece of moronic insensitivity must have sounded like a sniggering moment of humour to its perpetrators, but I can assure them it was neither funny or clever. This advert not only insults those at who it was aimed; it also shows its English readers that there are still those in Ireland who are stupid enough to place such a ridiculous ad. How they must have laughed at the Standard. - yours, etc.,
