Madam, – What is it with these people? Do they understand either sport or war? Ben Crenshaw had GW Bush (then governor of Texas) read Travis’s letter from the Alamo at Brookline on the eve of the Ryder Cup singles matches. Current American captain Corey Pavin has had a decorated fighter pilot address his team last Wednesday evening to “motivate” them (Sport, September 30th). Do Americans think that golf is war or are they deluded enough to think that war is a game? Either way, the words “inappropriate” and “disproportionate” come to mind.
– Yours, etc,
