Madam, - I'm sick to death of the phrase "rip-off Ireland". We are a relatively new nation just getting on our feet with regard to understanding our new-found prosperity. Why can't we develop a bit of confidence and enjoy it?
I have travelled a lot in the past four years. I've never managed to get a bed and breakfast anywhere in the world for €30, which is what I charge at my B&B.
On a recent trip to "The Square" in Tallaght I saw lunch - meat, two veg, potato - for €6. I was told recently of a pub where you can buy a pint of Guinness for €3. Why do examples like this never catch the attention of the media?
Let's give ourselves a little praise for a change and put an end to this "self-bashing" that must be keeping very many visitors from our shores. - Yours, etc,
MARIAN QUIRKE, Glen of Aherlow Road, Tipperary.
