Sir, - And now an examination question for us all to answer. Members of Fianna Fail are considering who to co-opt on to the Meath County Council to replace Councillor Mary Wallace now that she has a Ministerial post. Members of the Seanad are elected by an exclusive minority of the electorate, but the taxes of the disenfranchised still pay the salaries and expenses of those Senators. Members of the Oireachtas, including those same Senators, and County Councils, including co-opted Councillors, will decide the list of candidates the people can vote for in the forthcoming Presidential election. The Coalition Government owes its existence to the votes of Independents. Ireland is a democracy. Discuss. - Yours, etc., RICHARD McDAID,
Kells, Co. Meath.
