Madam, - It is very gracious of Michael Mulhern (September 21st) to recognise that Israel has a right to exist. It is unfortunate that he then goes on with the usual rubbish, charging Israelis with all kinds of everything. Of course he had to insert the usual one about the "security wall", etc, etc.
It is interesting that a construction built in Ireland to keep Christians from killing each other is called a "Peace Wall", but a similar construction built by Israelis to keep out suicide bombers is regarded as sinister.
Until the emergence of suicide bombers there was free movement for residents of the West Bank into Israel, with the result that the standard of living of those residents was 300 per cent higher than that of their counterparts in the surrounding Arab countries.
However, considering the kind of education that is being fed to Arab children I can see it taking even longer to dismantle the walls in the Middle East than it will in Northern Ireland. - Yours, etc,
