Sir, - We refer to your recent profile of one of the great parliamentarians of the current Dail, and former Charles Haughey supporter, Ivor Callely TD (The Irish Times, November 20th).
We would suggest that many of the issues identified by Mr Callely regarding asylum-seekers could be addressed by giving all adult asylum-seekers a taxi licence plate. Of course they would be required to pass a driving test.
With a taxi plate in their possession they could make an immediate and invaluable contribution to Dublin, and its long suffering public. They will be so busy trying to keep taxi queues to the length that is the norm in civilised countries that they will not have time to be "bleeding lambs in the back garden". - Yours, etc.,
Peter Hesse, Joan O'Flynn, Dangan Park, Dublin 12.
