Sir, - Kevin Myers's uncompromising and unforgettable assessment of Jack Lynch (An Irishman's Diary, October 27th) serves to remind the "real`' people of Ireland of the qualities of a "real" taoiseach.
The choreography and language of Jack Lynch's funeral restored the word "integrity" to its proper status, not its current political currency - brass neck and selective amnesia. The wise monkeys of the Fianna Fail party of 1979 who could not see, hear, speak of, or even feel the forces of darkness received an unambiguous message last Saturday. Those who tolerated or chose to ignore the Brotherhood of the Brown Envelope should be shivering with shame.
Should the next generation of Fianna Fail politicians eschew the moral cowardice of the class of 1979, the good achieved by Jack Lynch in his political lifetime will not be buried with his bones. - Yours, etc.,
Pat Hunt, Killarney Road, Bray, Co Wicklow.
