Madam, - Speaking about the "Rossport Five", the Taoiseach informs us that "Minister Dempsey has literally stood on his head all summer" in his efforts to solve this problem.
Really? I seem to recall several times seeing Mr Dempsey on TV, his head towards the top of the screen and his shoulders below. I also remember that one day during the summer I saw him walk along Pembroke Street, both feet firmly on the ground and his head held high. Perhaps he was just taking a short break from all that standing on his head.
The five Mayo men remain in jail, partly because the law is a ass, but even more because of the total intransigence of Shell. Can anyone think of a more crass exercise in public relations from a company that should be doing everything it can to woo and win and reassure the people of north Mayo? - Yours, etc,
CECIL MILLS,
Killiney,
Co Dublin.
