Sir, - I am currently researching the life and times of my father Joe Johnston (1890-1972). He was, it seems, a Barrington Lecturer during the period 1922-1932, on his own, at a time when the Barrington Trust was not being administered by the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society. Subsequent to 1932, on his initiative, it came back into contact with the Society. The records of his solo period have vanished; there is no record of what lectures, on what topic, were given, where.
I would like to ask any historians who are working on local papers in that period to bear in mind this gap in the archive, and if they come across the name Barrington in a header, or a report of a lecture on an economic topic which has the name Barrington in the introduction from the chair, to convey to me the name of the paper and the date, and I will acknowledge them gratefully in any publication which ensues. - Yours, etc., Roy Johnston,
