Sir, - It was my luck to have had to tolerate John O'Shea as a colleague in the now sadly defunct Irish Press for several years. John is different, but he does not lack commitment or integrity - how I wish we had more of his ilk in positions of authority in this country.

Last week on News at One, the Development Aid Minister, Joan Burton, chose to criticise John for screaming to the world about the suffering people of Rwanda and the lack of interest being shown by the United Nations. She was way off the mark. Joan Burton should be complimenting people like John O'Shea for being prepared to direct salvos at a bureaucratic dinosaur, which has failed miserably to solve the problems of the poor.

As you did in the Irish Press, John, ignore it - and press on. - Yours, etc.,
