Sir, - I read the letter (September 10th) from John Robb and have seldom had such enjoyment as a regular reader of the Letters columns.
The contents of the letter and the beautiful and readable quality of the Irish were things that I deeply relished. I will keep the letter and re-read it many times in the future.
From my schooldays more than 50 years ago I have maintained an interest in the Irish language. However, in recent decades when reading Irish columns in the newspapers I find that new phraseology and expressions that have accumulated make the reading rather difficult. However, the quality of the Irish in Mr Robb's letter brought me back to my schooldays.
Would that the newspaper columnists could give us such readable and enjoyable Irish. Thank you, Dr Robb, for the pleasure that your letter gave. - Yours, etc., Finbarr O'Brien,
