Sir, - I am not in favour of the recent suggestion that travellers be tagged, electronically or otherwise, but there is one group of people I would dearly like to see tagged, 24 hours a day. I refer, of course, to our public representatives, our TDs. As they indulge in their affairs, both private and public, wouldn't it be nice for the taxpayer who foots their bills to know exactly where they are at any given moment - what businessmen they are in the company of and accepting cheques from, what offshore account they are visiting, and where they are bedding down each night?
The cost of such a tagging scheme would be negligible in comparison with the massive cost of the tribunals we have to endure - tribunals whose only function seems to be the supplementation of the already huge incomes of lawyers. - Yours, etc., Des Mac Hale,
