Madam, - Kevin Myers's attack on John Kerry was cheap, nasty and depressingly ignorant (An Irishman's Diary, September 2nd).
Whatever dangers Kerry may or may not have faced in Vietnam, one danger he would not have met was George Bush, who was busy living the high life in Texas (before being born again and becoming an even bigger pain the second time round).
Let us remind ourselves again of the Iraq war (with apologies to its victims for the simplifications). Bush and his oily cronies swore blind that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction (and for this reason Kerry supported him). War fought, lives lost, no trace of the weapons and no link to 9/11 either.
So a new reason was put forward. Suddenly the war was all about "liberating oppressed people" and "spreading democracy" - laudable aims, to be sure - and ones Bush showed no interest in either before or since.
You couldn't make it up. And only political cretins could believe it. - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - With reference to Kevin Myers's attack on John Kerry's war record, I think it only fair that George Bush's record should be available for comparison. So, for the benefit of your readers, here is George Bush's full and complete war record. - Yours, etc.,
