Sir, - Here in the golden hills of the Sierra Nevada in California, with a cup of coffee in hand, I start each day by reading The Irish Times through my computer connection. I scan the news about Ireland (the world is already familiar) and I devour the sports section, looking for any news of Kerry successes.
But for the first time the other day I keyed into the Opinion section, and was absolutely entranced by Kevin Myers's insights into the personality of Liam de Paor (An Irishman's Diary, August 20th). I have no idea who Liam de Paor was, but I feel a sense of loss at not knowing him - all this about someone I never heard of, written by someone else I never heard of. If Liam de Paor was Keven Myers's teacher, what a wonderful gift he passed on to his pupil. - Yours, etc.,
