Madam, - Billy Kelleher TD (August 10th) purports to compare the records in government of Fianna Fáil and Labour.
In truth, his letter is nothing more than a rehearsal of how Fianna Fáil chose to distribute the fruits of the economic boom it inherited when it came into office. To assert that this is somehow comparable with earlier periods, when the boom had not yet taken off, is fatuous.
If Mr Kelleher insists on this approach, perhaps he would also care to list the other side of Fianna Fáil's "boom management": childcare that costs more than your mortgage, a health service in tatters, the traffic, the problem of finding a place in school for your child. And that's before we get onto the issue of waste - of both the environmental and the aquatic-centre varieties. - Yours, etc,
JIM MURPHY, Clontarf, Dublin 3.
