Sir, - It may or may not be true, as Mr Michael Byrne of London suggests (August 2nd) that a letter beginning "A chara" and ending "Is mise" but otherwise in English frequently expresses a bigoted view. It does, however, involve a constant misuse of our first language.
Isn't it time you refused to publish letters presented in this manner? Surely, they should be entirely in one language or the other, but not in this ridiculous hodge-podge?
The plain people of Ireland have had to tolerate this bilingual nonsense for too long. - Yours, etc.,
