Sir, - On opening your excellent newspaper last Saturday morning I was relieved to read Breda O'Brien's article on our non-judgmental society of today.
I was beginning to despair that no one cared enough to pen a letter to you on the phenomenon of lap-dancing shown on the Late Late Show the previous Saturday night.
Many people were amazed, I am sure, to see this erotic dancing portrayed in such a casual manner on that show and to realise that it is taking place nightly in several clubs in our capital city - yet nobody writes a word of protest to you. Breda O'Brien was so accurate when she stated that we are so afraid now of not being cool, of moralising, of being judgmental, that we become paralysed in the face of our sex-saturated culture. Indeed, we are eagerly tolerating an amoral society with progressively diminishing values.
Our flourishing economy is destroying our most precious possession - our Christian ethos. Does anybody notice or care, except perhaps Breda O'Brien? Thank heavens for her like. - Yours, etc.,
Patricia Hannigan, Mount Merrion, Co Dublin.
