Sir, - I am writing to protest at the clamping of vehicles first thing in the morning. At this time of the year many will decide to leave their cars overnight rather than risk drinking and driving. If the word gets out that their cars are likely to be clamped, they may make the foolish decision to drive.
These cars are being clamped as early as 8.30 a.m. even on Saturday mornings when there are ample car-parking spaces, on Fitzwilliam Square anyway. Dublin Corporation should realise the seriousness of this policy. Unless the offending cars are creating an obstruction, I suggest they appoint 10.00 a.m. as the clamping start time to give people a chance to retrieve their vehicles. - Yours, etc., Eithne McGuinness,
