Sir, - August 19th was Leaving Cert Results day. I beg to ask the question; why has the media contributed only towards promoting fantastic success stories such as that on Radio One, with Carrie Crowley and Myles Dungan speaking to a young girl after receiving seven A1s?
I congratulate such marvellous achievements, but as a teacher, I wish we would remember those students who struggled to achieve pass grades in ordinary level papers. It seems we are applauding results only, not effort. The media seem to have added to the non-recognition of differing academic levels of students. Let's try not to forget those students whose ambitions do not rise to studying Pharmacy in highly regarded institutions. After all, society cannot survive on educating Pharmacists alone! - Yours, etc.,
Fiona Brennan,
