Life in the Tiger yet?

Madam, - Niall Ginty (December 27th) appears to live in a different country to the rest of us

Madam, - Niall Ginty (December 27th) appears to live in a different country to the rest of us. He suggests that if we are all positive and close our eyes and ears to the "peddlers of pessimism" we will bound ahead economically for "the next 15 years". Why only 15 years? Why not 50?

Who might these "peddlers" be? The economists in the ESRI who affirm there will be a sharp decline in the growth of the past 10 years? All other respected economic forecasters agree, whether here or in Europe. Does Mr Ginty have some privileged information they do not have? If so, would he care to share it with us?

Mr Ginty seems to follow the Bertie Ahern approach to our problems. Obfuscate, suggest outlandish ideas, speak nonsense and the problems will go away. The Irish answer to an Irish problem is not to do anything about it. This Government has brought this approach to a fine art. - Yours, etc,
