Madam, - Kevin Myers (An Irishman's Diary, August 1st) is correct to say the subject matter of the tribunal of inquiry into the infection of persons with haemophilia with HIV and Hepatitis C is one of unbearable tragedy. However, with regard to barristers retained by the Irish Haemophilia Society, we wish to make it clear that the society's full legal team took a very proactive role throughout the tribunal process and represented the best interests of our members before, during and following the tribunal.
We acknowledge and appreciate the commitment, dedication and professionalism of all our legal team throughout the Lindsay Tribunal.
The taxation process of which Mr Myers writes is not yet complete. Neither he, nor anyone else, is in a position to draw conclusions on an incomplete process. We should be most grateful if you could desist from further comment until the process by which our legal costs will be determined is complete. - Yours, etc.,
MICHAEL DAVENPORT, Chairperson, Irish Haemophilia Society, Arran Quay, Dublin 7.
