A chara, – I am writing a history of the Irish language organisation, Gael Linn, which was founded in 1953. At present, I am researching the first 10 years of the organisation and would like to hear from anyone who was involved in, or has information on, any of the projects which Gael Linn undertook during that period.
Projects included a sponsored radio programme on Radio Éireann, the publishing and promotion of traditional music recordings, Gaeltacht sponsorships, the Damer Theatre in Dublin, drama festivals throughout the country, Cabaret Gael Linn, the Irish language newsreel, Amharc Éireann and the films Mise Éire, Saoirse?, Peil, Christy Ring, etc. Funding for the cultural activities of the organisation was by means of the Gael Linn pools for which a network of timirí throughout the country collected weekly contributions.
I would like to hear from anyone who was involved in any of these activities and also from anyone with information on the Gael Linn fish and vegetable processing industries in Carna, Co Galway and the small industries project in Teileann, Co Donegal.
I can be contacted at the address below or at stair@gael-linn.ie. Information received will be duly acknowledged and all materials will be safely returned. – Is mise,
