Madam, - Vincent Salafia (August 8th) makes a good point when he asks who is to check if the trucks going through Dublin city are too high for the tunnel or are simply avoiding the toll.
I can testify that the huge trucks trundling through Drogheda are as numerous as before the bypass. In other words they are bypassing the toll. Mostly they are UK and NI registered. The added problem now is that there is little impediment to their speed because almost all the motor car traffic uses the bypass and so the once familiar queues through this town have disappeared.
Let us hope one of these heavily laden vehicles isn't forced to brake suddenly in this hilly town. - Yours, etc.,
