Sir, - Siobhan Parkinson writes (The Irish Times, October 5th): "We have a powerful sense of ourselves as a child-loving people. We are not." How right she is. Could it be that we get more exercised about the unborn rather than the born children?
How did we acquire that reputation - perhaps it's because of our long history of multiple pregnancies. Or then again, maybe we congratulated ourselves because we became, in Dr Paisley's immortal phrase, "incubators for the Vatican". - Yours, etc.,
