Sir - Although born and brought up in Belfast, I have regarded Dublin as my favourite city since the days of my post-graduate study at Trinity College. In particular, O'Connell Street was rich in atmosphere, a place to meet for the craic and the cosmopolitan centre of the island.witnessed its decline over the past 10 years with the plethora of fast food cafes and the pervasive litters.
I share the opinion that the "Floozie in the Jacuzzi" detracts from the ambience of the street. May I make the suggestion that it should be transferred to St Stephen's Green and a new sculpture should be commissioned to replace it? I suggest a theme to depict the arrival of the modern confident Ireland, incorporating a celebration of the first female President, the universally admired Mary Robinson. - Yours, etc.,
Coleraine,
Co Derry.
