Madam, - Your columnist Mark Steyn would be well advised to check his facts a little better.
He wrote in Monday's edition that an unemployed waitress in Berlin was facing the loss of welfare benefits because she refused a job as a prostitute in a legalised brothel. If he had looked beyond the internet headline he would have discovered that this was a hypothetical case that had been put forward in a German magazine. It was used to demonstrate a possible situation which might arise under German law.
Perhaps a little more research would temper some of the views expressed in his column. - Yours, etc.,
DAVID JORDAN, Grangebrook Avenue, Dublin 16.
