Madam, - Gemma Hussey (June 9th) seems unable to differentiate between the messenger and the message. She quite openly admits to ignoring a piece that Kevin Myers wrote (An Irishman's Diary, June 3rd) about a horrific case of abuse and the inadequate response to it simply because it was written by him.
She says Mr Myers "can't be too surprised that sometimes, when he writes a serious and well-written, well-researched article, it is ignored".
Can we take it, then, that she is interested in responding only to Mr Myers's "over the top" pieces and then only because they offend the politically correct, as indeed Mr Myers suggested in that same article?
She accuses him of "crying wolf", but may I suggest that such a response is petty and self-indulgent in the extreme.
Call for an inquiry, Ms Hussey, and stop taking cheap pot-shots at the wrong target. - Yours, etc,
MÁIRE GARVEY, Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
