Sir, - It has come to our notice that the national service to mark the second millennium of the birth of our Lord is to be held in the National Concert Hall and not in a Christian church. We feel it regrettable that, in a city where ecumenical services are a regular feature of church life, this service, above all services, is be held in a secular hall.
Recognising that the population of the city is overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, it would surely be appropriate that this particular service be held in one of the city's larger churches of that Communion. - Yours, etc.,
Very Rev Dr Robert MacCarthy, Dean of Saint Patrick's, Very Rev John Paterson, Dean of Christ Church, Dublin 8.
