Madam, – Your Editorial on bankers and their cavalier attitude to pay and perks was a real eye- opener (December 6th). How they are allowed to get away with such behaviour in these times beggars belief. Since we, the taxpayers, virtually own the lot, who is keeping tabs on our behalf?
The skulduggery that has been rampant in recent times, not only in banking, calls for radical action. I believe a national maximum wage should be imposed, set at X-times the minimum. That would give a relationship between top and bottom and would be a constant incentive on those at the top to campaign for a better minimum. All income above the maximum would be taxed at 100 per cent. – Yours, etc,
