Madam, - Reading Eileen Battersby's "Second Reading" series on Saturdays, I am struck by how this column seems to be a missed opportunity.
A second reading of a book after, say, 20 years or so lets you see it in a different light - how you have changed, how society has changed, how it now seems dated, or even more relevant. The point of the exercise is how the second reading compares with your first reading of the same book.
Instead, Ms Battersby gives us little more than a brief plot synopsis. - Yours, etc,
JACK O'CONNOR, Upper Rathmines Road, Dublin 6.
