Sir, - Congratulations to Sean Barrett (Opinion, December 8th) on his most common-sense article on deregulation. I do hope that Bobby Molloy will stick by his decision when the flak begins to fly - as it certainly will, especially if there is any truth in the claim that several of his colleagues in Dail Eireann are owners of taxis. It is for that very reason that deregulation of the licensed trade has been held up for years by pub owners, aided heavily by pub-owning TDs.
I am looking forward to the day, in this new Ireland that is unfolding all around us, when pub-owners and taxi-owners will have to live with the same deregulated competition as, the same as the rest of us have had to all of our business lives. The day of prop-ups is coming to an end. - Yours, etc.,
Patrick Mortell, Ballykeeffe Estate, Limerick.
