Sir, - I am sure that Mrs Robinson will be saddened to learn that Fr Dominic Johnson of Glenstal (November 4th) has torn up her photograph because she holds that abortion should be allowed "in certain circumstances" in Ireland.
Mrs Robinson was President (and a remarkably good one she was) of a country which is no longer the fiefdom of the (Roman) Catholic Church.
One ought to allow Fr Johnson his views, but there are many hundreds of thousands in Ireland who consider that human rights, in cases where abortion may be considered, extend beyond the confines of the unborn child, and include the well-being of the mother, and others.
Mrs Robinson, as President, was seeking to give expression to their sincerely-held opinions. - Yours, etc., R. I. Stoupe,
Hillsborough, Co Down.
