Madam, - Recently Kevin Myers posed the unanswered question "What is a non-national"? Presumably, in this country a "non-national" is someone who is devoid of any trace of Irish ancestry.
The faultless lack of this lineage is something of a barrier to the integration of our new immigrants of very different origins and outlook.
The question is: will Irish identity, of Christian, or post-Christian, ethos survive or be subsumed in this cultural melting pot?
It is scary to realise that after a full 400 years since the plantation of Ulster we have failed fully to integrate the arrivals of those --- into a peaceful, cohesive community. - Yours, etc,
