Madam, – I found myself walking along a very thronged street in Dún Laoghaire during the weekend’s joyful Festival of World Cultures when just in front of me I heard a young Thai boy of about six or seven say to his mother, in an impeccable south Dublin accent; “let’s go see her”.

Turning to watch as he, his two siblings and mother crossed Georges St, I found myself wondering just who that “her’”might be. My heart soared when I saw this young boy literally jump into the arms of the only female Garda there. At a distance of 40 metres their mutual affection was palpable and I walked home wishing I’d had a camera. Instead, all I can offer are my words. – Yours, etc,
