Madam, - The tragic death of Shane Geoghegan, the innocent victim of yet another gangland killing, prompts the question: to what degree are the consumers of the drugs these gangs are prepared to kill for responsible for these needless deaths?
Many drug users are middle- class people who choose to spend some of their disposable income on cocaine. It is really shocking that while the Government, gardaí and community activists do all they can to stop these criminal gangs, the so-called recreational drug users remain indifferent to the tragedies that their "recreation" is inflicting on others. - Is mise,

Madam, - I suggest that a minute's silence be observed before every rugby match this week and at the weekend, including the international friendly.
The murder of Shane Geoghegan is a reprehensible act.
A minute's silence would be no consolation to his family and friends but would give players around the country a chance to pay their respects to one of their own and to say that these disgusting and cowardly acts of violence cannot be tolerated any longer. - Yours, etc,
