Madam, - Your interest in the arts in healthcare ("Striking the Right Notes", October 30th) is welcome. I was surprised, however, at the suggestion that music therapy had shirked its responsibility to become an evidence-based profession like medicine. A large body of international research provides rigorous evidence for the use of music therapy to address a range of clinical needs. This is equivalent with the available evidence for other allied health professions and is the basis on which qualified music therapists are currently seeking recognition as a professional category in healthcare in Ireland. - Yours, etc,
