Sir, - Taoiseach Bruton's fatuous analogy between Sinn Fein and Nazi political tactics displays a sad lack of historical knowledge. The Nazis in fact achieved power by posing as supporters of law and order and by colourful, uniformed mass meetings, somewhat of a cross between an Orange march and his own party's Blueshirt rallies of old.
The bomb-and-ballot tactic, on the other hand, was practised most successfully by the founding fathers of this State between 1917 and 1922. - Yours, etc.
