Sir, - If it takes four-and-a-half years and a pending general election for the Government to produce a plan to improve such a dismal, third-rate and inequitable health system, how long might it take for the same Government to deliver on such a plan? Please don't hold your breath. If major improvements to the health services couldn't be effected during the period of the Celtic Tiger when the country was "awash with money" and we enjoyed unprecedented wealth, what chance of getting the Taoiseach's "world class" system now that the bubble has burst and we are again back to borrowing?
There are shades of 1977 in this latest offering from the Coalition Government. Anyone who believes all this is anything other than cynical electioneering needs a thorough and rapid head examination. - Yours,etc.
