Madam, - Having recently moved into a new house, I have found that Ireland's Tiger economy is a farce. It takes between two and four weeks for Cork City Council to provide a dustbin at a cost of €65. For €290 (plus bin tags) I can arrange the said rubbish to be collected, but only once I have a dustbin. When I asked Cork City Council what they propose I should do with my rubbish while waiting, I was told it's not their problem.
I have waited two months for Eircom to connect my telephone line. When I queried the delay, I was told the connection may happen soon or it may happen in some weeks to come.
With such delays in obtaining basic services, how can Ireland honestly view itself as competitive? - Yours, etc,
Dr SÍLE NIC CHORMAIC, Hartland's Road, Cork.
