Sir, - Ms Mary Harney has said she will be embarrassed if Ireland votes to reject the Treaty of Nice. This is a shocking statement from the Tanaiste; she is going to be embarrassed by the democratic process if those in favour of European integration and further militarisation of the EU are defeated. Democracy is about the will of the people. Whatever the outcome of the referendum democrats must accept it. On this occasion those of us who are campaigning for a rejection of the Nice Treaty are very confident of winning, but if we lose we will be disappointed, not embarrassed. Democrats have no reason for embarassment. - Yours, etc.,
Tom Crilly, (Workers' Party), Hastings Street, Dublin 4.
