Sir, - I think it reasonable to say that to hold a second referendum on the Nice Treaty would render the status of the first one to that of an opinion poll. I also feel that it would set a dangerous precedent for democracy in this country. What kind of example would it be to send to the Eastern European countries awaiting accession to the EU, who must prove their adherence to democratic values, when a democratic decision by one of the member-states can be so easily undermined and overturned? - Yours, etc.,
