Sir, - After the debacle of the Nice Referendum it is indeed time to hold a second one. However, on this occasion let it be a referendum of all the other countries of the EU. Give them the opportunity to decide whether they want a country as selfish and self-serving as ours to continue to be a member. - Yours, etc.,
Dr M.A. Honan, Portarlington, Co Laois.
Sir, - So Romano Prodi is upset because the Irish referendum failed to produce the answer that would serve the purpose of those who would create a new European empire. Like all bullies he insists that the correct answer must be produced, otherwise disaster will befall those foolish enough to frustrate the grand design.
The land of my birth fought too long to attain its own sovereignty to hand it over now to a bunch of adventurers and bureaucrats. In less than the span of a century, is one form of tyranny and suppression of national identity to be replaced by another? I hope not. - Yours, etc.,
W.V. Gorman, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England.
