Sir, - With reference to the television documentary States of Fear, I would like to put on record that my son Andrew, who is blind, spent eight very happy years at St Joseph's School for the Blind in Drumcondra (featured in the programme). The staff and the facilities were great and he had a brilliant time there.

Unfortunately, since he moved on to second-level education last September, he has not had access to school books in Braille (the reading method of the blind). Just imagine: if an able-bodied child had no English book there would be a public outcry, but because there are not too many blind kids (three in first year) nobody in the Department of Education gives a damn.

That's what I call abuse! - Yours, etc., Phillip Green,
