Sir, - Penelope Dening believes that it cannot be easy being married to a genius like Newton, Einstein or Stephen Hawking. In her review of Jane Hawking's book Music to Move the Stars - A Life with Stephen (Books, August 21st), she says: "Neither Mrs E nor Mrs N vouchsafed us their views on what it was like being married to a genius, but it's a pound to a penny it was no easy ride."
Your correspondent may be right about Einstein but no one can say what it was like being married to Newton for the simple reason that Newton was a bachelor all his life. - Yours, etc.,
