Madam, – It is disheartening to see that two years since the onset of the financial crisis individuals are still refusing to accept that their own actions contributed to the current situation. T Gerard Bennett (June 28th) writes of “us” being dragged into this despite having no “hand, act or part in the cause”. This is blatantly not the case. There are two sides to every transaction: no bank forced individuals to borrow huge sums of money.
While it may have been imprudent for the banks to offer such sums, the individuals accepted it of their own volition. This unpleasant truth cannot be glossed over. Thankfully the Honohan and Regling-Watson reports are beginning to expose the lies which had been emanating from the Government that the current crisis was not of our making. – Yours, etc,
