Madam, – Could there be a Nobel Prize winner among the estimated 500,000 “spare” and “frozen” embryos created through IVF still waiting to be born? Recent reports state that there is a one in five chance of a take-home baby following IVF treatment and that nearly four million such babies have been born to date. If it is the case that at least two embryos are implanted per cycle of IVF treatment, what then of the other tens of millions of human lives lost through failed treatments? What of their bereft and wounded mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters? How unspeakably sad and how grievously sinful that such catastrophic destruction of innocent unborn human life is permitted, and now even lauded! May God have mercy on us all.

Madam, – If the Catholic Church had more priests of Fr Iggy O’Donovan’s ilk (October 7th), there would probably be no need for “Senior churchmen to give particular attention to victims of abuse” (Home News, October 7th), but then, when was the last time that the Catholic Church listened to its priests? – Yours, etc,
