Sir, - Joe Patton (February 26th) wonders why multiplex cinemas have their sound levels so high these days. Perhaps it's to combat the noise of latecomers looking for seats in the darkness, sweets being unwrapped and chewed, popcorn being devoured, cans of drink being popped open - and even the odd mobile phone or two going off for good measure. - Yours, etc.,
