Madam, - In her article "The Naked Tourist" (Life Features, June 23rd), Finola Meredith reports on the "wonderfully liberating" experience of appearing nude in public, but disregards the fact that this indulgence violates the rights of other users of the same space who may not wish to be surrounded by nudity.
Tourists exhibiting their naked bodies on foreign beaches also exhibit a deep lack of respect for the country they visit; in the same way, "Grace" in the article, parading herself naked in front of her teenage children, ignoring their pleas to her to cover up, shows herself to be both selfish and insensitive.
Ms Meredith wonders why Irish people, while happy to strip off when they are abroad, are reluctant to do so at home. This, one can only hope, is because in Ireland we still expect people to show some consideration for the feelings - and rights - of others. - Yours, etc,
A. RODEN, Cashel, Co Galway.
